The International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) plays a major global role in the application of information science and technology in the fields of healthcare and research in medical, health and bio informatics. The basic goals and objectives of the association are to: promote informatics in health care and research in health, bio and medical informatics; advance and nurture international cooperation; to stimulate research, development and routine application; and move informatics from theory into practice in a full range of health delivery settings, from physician's office to acute and long term care. The National Association for Public Health Information Technology (NAPHIT) is a non-profit organization that provides leaders in public health information technology with a venue to exchange ideas and experiences, discuss and shape current public health information policy, and learn about tools and technologies that help them better support public health. NAPHIT’s base membership is the Chief Information Officers and Directors of Information Technology from the State, Territories, County, and Local Public Health Departments. (NCHICA) is a nonprofit consortium of over 250 organizations dedicated to improving healthcare by accelerating the adoption of information technology. The National Governors Association (NGA) is the collective voice of the nation's governors and one of Washington, D.C.'s, most respected public policy organizations.
