Joseph E. Stiglitz
SVP - Development Economics & Chief Economist
The World Bank

Mr. Stiglitz is currently on leave from Stanford University serving an appointment to the World Bank as Senior Vice President for Development Economics and Chief Economist. Previously, Dr. Stiglitz served as Chairman of the U.S. Council of Economic Advisers since June 1995, and was a member of the Council and an active member of President Clinton’s economic team since 1993. Dr. Stiglitz is an eminent expert and pioneer both in the new branch of information economics—which has been widely applied throughout the economics discipline—and in the economics of the public sector. Dr. Stiglitz helped pioneer pivotal concepts such as theories of adverse selection and moral hazard, which have now become the standard tools of policy analysts as well as economic theorists.
