Best Practices for Respiratory and COPD Management in the Workplace
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) ranks behind only cardiovascular diseases and cancer as a leading cause of deaths in the U.S. Additionally, employers should be aware of the fact that respiratory conditions among employees have a significant impact on direct healthcare costs related to treatment as well as indirect cost associated with productivity, absenteeism and disability. In fact, with annual costs over $30 billion, the workdays lost totals more than 58 million and lost wages at approximately $10 billion. It is critical that employers understand how to develop strategies to manage this prevalent condition. This session will outline:
  • Actions employers can take to reduce the incidence of COPD complications and other respiratory conditions among employees, lowering health-care costs and improving productivity
  • Successful development of smoking cessation programs
  • Best practices in educating employees regarding prevention, pharmaceutical compliance and encouraging better self-care through targeted advanced care management programs

Gaining C-Suite Buy-In and Support of Innovative Healthcare and Benefits Programs
IBI's 2005 survey of CFOs and other research fills the gaps between CFOs' perspectives of health-related human capital and perspectives held by those who administer benefits programs. A productivity-based focus on the bottom-line value of healthcare and its outcomes can orient CFOs to understanding benefits programs as an investment in human capital. What kinds of productivity or other measures do CFOs need to see from their benefits programs?
Attendees gain research-based insights into:
  • The true cost of workforce health issues, and how to frame a broader ROI for investments in workforce health
  • What benchmarks CFOs suggest to foster the same attention CFOs give to rising healthcare costs and to get approval for workforce health and productivity initiatives
  • The information and tools CFOs want to gauge the impact of absenteeism and presenteeism on their business results
