The mobile phone, the "Swiss Army knife of life management", is the vital health/fitness tool of the 21 st Century. Consumer demand, health care reform and the FCC's broadband plan promises to drive rapid growth in mobile fitness and health care.The key to making mobile phones work in health care lies in enabling fitness and health, person-centered, game like approaches that makes it fun and entertaining – or "productive entertainment". As a result of participating in this interactive workshop, attendees will be able to:
- Understand the consumer market and what's driving adoption – The confluence of social media, entertainment and ubiquitous mobile phones
- Assess how iPad, and other similar devices can deliver measurable health benefits to consumers, patients and professionals
- Discuss evidence from early studies and data that show the clinical impact of mobile and gaming on health outcomes
- Examine how leading pioneers, i.e. health plans and provider organizations, in the Games for Health field have built and are building innovative and effective eGames for engaging consumers in a "carrots" not "sticks" approach to healthier behaviors
- Games+Social Networks+Mobile are a powerful combination - Learn ways that you, as a health care organization, can encourage consumers and patients pick up these powerful and effective tools to influence fitness and weight loss.
The workshop will include one or more a real-time, interactive exercise where attendees will explore the application of social media, gaming and mobile to challenges around diabetes, childhood obesity and other critical challenges.
