10 ‘Facts’ on Accountable Care Organizations
Gary Baldwin
Health Data Management Blogs, May 31, 2011
I spent two days last week at the World Congress Leadership Summit on Accountable Care Organizations and my mind is just now recovering. As far as speaker quality goes, this conference (which offered concurrent tracks on ICD-10 and Meaningful Use) was top-notch, with dozens of speakers from hospitals, medical groups, payers, and consulting firms. Complex and costly mandates and compliance standards are coming down the pike fast and furious!
Health plan and providers must be prepared for more frequent and complex regulatory changes with a near continuous focus on compliance and standardization. These “waves of reform” will occur over the next 3-5 years and biannually after that. These reform mandates will be very costly and are often distractions from core business. Health plans alone spent billions on HIPAA 1 & 2 and HITEC compliance. 5010 and ICD-10 pave the way for massive automation and interoperability if plans and providers are poised to leverage these investments.
ICD-10 conversion and the mandated changes coming down are NOT JUST AN IT ISSUE! These initiatives will have enormous impacts on many parts of your organizations. By attending this summit you’ll hear
- Meeting Interoperability and Standardization Deadlines and Leveraging Investments for ROI
- Leveraging New Data and Technologies to Increase Connectivity for the ACO and PCMH Models?
- Best Practices from Payers and Providers Who Are Ahead of the Curve
- 101 on ICD 10 – Strategies on How to Get Up to Speed Fast
- Creating an Infrastructure to Manage Your Organization Through the Various Stages of Change
