Technology Enabled Pro-active Care to "Make Me Healthy" in India
Gaurav Mundra, Chief Operating Officer, Truworth Health
In India, the poorest people with chronic diseases spend an average of 25% of their income on private care. The most that they can pay for are treatments that keep them alive by blunting the highest, quickly fatal levels of disease conditions. Considering mainly the effects of premature mortality, WHO estimates that (between 2005 and 2014) diabetes, heart disease and stroke together will cost $336.6 billion in India. The entire productive work-force is at risk of being swept under the wave of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular & respiratory ailments and obesity. Preventive health care is voluntary and requires a visit to lab or hospital. Very few people in the age group of 25-40 go for a preventive health check. Preventive Health care for middle class is not affordable in terms of actual costs and time and for the majority it ends at the lab values. The challenge is to provide an affordable, time-saving and informative preventive health check-up. Make Me Healthy devised a 15-minute, at home Health Risk Assessment covering the risks of diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, Respiratory ailments, obesity & stress. The equipment is FDA-approved and minimally invasive, only a prick. Tests cover ECG, total cholesterol, triglyceride, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, spirometry, random blood sugar, body composition (8 parameters). Report consists of scientific risk profiling, doctor’s consultation, customized diet & fitness chart, specialist referral & further testing advice.
